Introducing…AlunaGeorge

In the late nighties, when Britpop and girl power began to deflate like a sad balloon-animal, we turned to the US and embraced in the bosom of the sexy and smooth airwaves drifting across the pond that was R&B. TLC, The Neptunes, hell, even Brandy and Monica were at it, and despite our futile attempts it was purely, until now, an American art.

Couragesously going where no Brit has successfully gone before, London duo AlunaGeorge have waded deeply into the murky waters of R&B, armed with a hefty bag of dupstep that brings their recordings firmly into 2012.

With sweetly delicate Corinne-Bailey-Rae vocals, singer Aluna Francis chisels off the harsher edges of George Reid’s beats, a balanced relationship that nurtures a progressive and rich British texture.

Singing ‘I’m not a follower’  on current single You Know You Like It, Aluna suggests we can rest easy that more syrupy sounds are due from our duo, who have lit a beamingly bright spark for the UK music scene.

See them live in London’s Koko June 3rd
